Hey there, adventurer! You've just taken your first steps into the vastness of Tamriel and you're feeling a little lost? That's completely normal! Between choosing your class, skills, quests, and crafts, it's easy to feel overwhelmed.
But don't worry. Today, we're detailing a method designed to lay the strongest possible foundation: "The Beginnings of the God of Battlefield." This approach, which I have refined, will allow you to combine efficiency and fun from level 1, preparing you for endgame content. Whether you're a destructive Mage or a summoning Sorcerer, this method is for you.
The Core Principle: Efficiency Through Preparation
The secret to becoming a force of nature in ESO isn't found in a single quest or a magical item, but in the accumulation of small advantages that you unlock throughout your adventure. The goal of the "Beginnings of the God of Battlefield" is simple: unlock as early as possible the systems that will make you stronger, so they progress passively while you play.
You won't waste time backtracking later; everything happens naturally.
Step 1: The Foundations of the God (Levels 1–10)
As soon as you create your character, the adventure begins. Here are the first actions to take.
1. Mastering Your Skill Bar
With your first three skill points, put one point into the first skill of each of your three class skill lines (e.g., Dark Magic, Daedric Summoning, and Storm Calling for a Sorcerer).
Place these three skills on your active bar. This is crucial! A skill line only levels up if one of its skills is slotted on your active bar. This will allow you to unlock all your class skills and passives quickly.
Equip your weapon of choice (a Destruction Staff for a Mage, for example) and kill your first enemy with it. This unlocks that weapon skill line.
2. Recruit Your Eternal Ally: The Companion
Go as soon as possible to a zone that offers a companion (like Tor Draioch in the High Isle region to recruit Ember, a community favorite).
Why so early? Your companion gains experience and equipment only when they are by your side. By getting them immediately, they will become a powerful ally instead of just a later distraction.
Pro Tip: Ember is excellent because she is easy-going and doesn't mind if you commit petty crimes. Summon her via the “Collections” menu → “Allies” → “Companions.”
3. Unlock the Treasure Hunt: Antiquities
Travel to Solitude in Western Skyrim (via the wayshrine). Enter the Antiquarian Circle and speak to Verita Numida.
This system allows you to excavate treasure, ultra-powerful Mythic items, and furniture. Unlocking it early will allow you to earn a lot of gold and acquire essential items for your future builds.
Don’t forget: After the tutorial, slot the Antiquarian’s Eye on your quick-select wheel (Inventory → Quick Slot → Tools). It will guide you to hidden treasures.
Step 2: The Awakening of Power (Levels 10–45)
From level 10, the world opens up to you. It's time to add daily routines to your gameplay.
1. The Daily Dungeon: A Gold Mine
Open the Group Finder (default P key) and do one random normal dungeon per day. The reward is huge: a mountain of experience, Transmute Crystals (essential for high-level crafting), and a reward coffer.
Every dungeon has a quest that gives one skill point. Do them all at least once!
What to do with all the equipment? Deconstruct it at crafting stations (blacksmithing, clothing, etc.)! This will level up your crafting skill and provide you with precious materials.
2. Become a Mobile Force: Mount & Inventory
At level 10, you receive your first mount. Visit a stablemaster (horse icon on the map) every day to improve your mount's Speed. This is one of the best investments in the game.
The other priority expense is enlarging your inventory. Find a pack merchant (backpack icon) in any major city and buy additional slots. You will need them.
3. The Hidden Power of Cyrodiil: Speed
Even if you don't like PvP, go to Cyrodiil. Press L, join a low-population campaign.
Once there, open the "Zone Guide" and start the Zone Story. Follow this PvE quest (without fighting other players) until you are taught to use a catapult.
Upon completion, you will reach Assault Rank 3, which allows you to unlock the Continuous Attack passive. This skill increases your mount speed by 30% outside of Cyrodiil. Essential for any self-respecting God of Battlefield!
For Mages and Sorcerers: Mastering Distance
The God of Battlefield method adapts perfectly to ranged combatants. Here's how to get the most out of it:
-
Destruction Staff: Your main tool. Focus on this skill line to unlock area-of-effect spells and passives that increase spell damage.
-
Class Skills: Always keep at least one skill from each class line on your bar. For a Sorcerer, this means, for example, having a Dark Magic skill (damage), a Daedric Summoning skill (buff/control), and a Storm Calling skill (pet). This diversity is key to unlocking your full potential.
-
Mages Guild: Travel to Lilmoth in the Systres region to start the main quest and unlock the Mages Guild. This gives you access to extremely powerful skills, like Empower. Also, collect all the lorebooks (they glow blue) you see to level up this guild.
-
Antiquities: Some of the most powerful Mythic items for magicka builds (like Harpooner’s Wading Kilt) are obtained through this system. You'll be glad you unlocked it so early.
Step 3: The Advent of the God (Level 45 and Beyond)
You are approaching the summit. It's time to finalize your build.
1. The Undaunted Pledges
At level 45, finish the Undaunted quest you likely picked up earlier. Then, go to Elden Root in Grahtwood, Mournhold in Deshaan, or Wayrest in Stormhaven to speak to the Undaunted pledge masters.
Every day, they will give you “pledges”: specific dungeons to complete. The reward? Undaunted Keys, which are used to obtain monster sets – devastating 2-piece set items that are indispensable for any endgame build.
2. The Ultimate Goal: Champion 160
The maximum level for gear is CP 160. Rush towards this cap! Once reached, all gear you find will be at the maximum level. This is when you should seriously start putting together your gear sets.
3. Champion Points and Infinity
After level 50, you gain access to the Champion Point (CP) system. Don't be intimidated by the complex tree. Follow a reliable build guide to place your points optimally. These passives will significantly strengthen your character.
Conclusion: Your Legend Awaits
The "Beginnings of the God of Battlefield" method isn't a rigid path, but a philosophy. By taking the time to unlock the right systems at the right moment, you save yourself hours of tedious "catch-up" later.
You thus combine the efficiency of ranged classes with an optimized progression, allowing you to fully enjoy everything Tamriel has to offer, whether you're a scholar of the Mages Guild or a lone Sorcerer.
So, what are you waiting for? Your mount's saddle awaits, your companion is by your side, and a world of treasure and glory lies before you. Become the God of Battlefield that Tamriel needs.
Happy gaming, adventurer!
